SmartSens Announces New 0.7-Micron Pixel，50MP CMOS Image Sensor for Smartphone Cameras

(SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, announced SC535XS, a 50-MegaPixel (MP), 0.7-Micron Pixel CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) for smartphone cameras. Based on Smartsens advanced SmartClarity^®-SL Pro platform, SC535XS utilizes the advanced 28+nm Stack process, and is equipped with technologies including PixGain HDR^®, SFCPixel^®-SL, and AllPix ADAF^®. It features multiple outstanding performance attributes such as high dynamic range (HDR), low noise, fast autofocus, and ultra-low power consumption. SC535XS supports high frame rate HDR videos capture. It will bring an all-new high-quality video shooting experience to secondary cameras (such as telephoto cameras and wide-angle cameras) in high-end flagship smartphones, comprehensively enhancing the overall imaging capabilities of smartphones.

Main features

High dynamic range

The SC535XS is equipped with SmartSens' PixGain HDR^® technology and features a maximum dynamic range of approximately 80 dB. It can bring high dynamic video with vivid light and shadow to the secondary cameras of flagship smartphones, ensuring no overexposure in bright areas and clearer details in dark areas. Furthermore, based on the PixGain HDR^® on-chip dual-frame combination, the SC535XS can effectively suppress the generation of motion artifacts while maintaining a high dynamic range. Thus, when shooting moving objects, SC535XS enables smartphone cameras to achieve high-quality video effects that are clear and free of motion blur.

Additionally, SC535XS supports shooting 4K 60fps high dynamic range (HDR) videos in PixGain HDR^® mode, as well as 4K 120fps ultra-high frame rate videos in normal mode. This provides additional frame rate headroom for professional video creation, markedly enhancing the video quality of secondary cameras in flagship smartphones.

High sensitivity and low noise

Sensitivity and noise are key factors that determine the performance of smartphone night photography. Leveraging SmartSens’ advanced SFCPixel^®-SL technology, SC535XS delivers enhanced sensitivity and reduced noise, with a sensitivity of up to 1904 mV/lux*s and a read noise of < 1 e⁻. This read noise level represents a significant reduction of approximately 46% compared to similar products in the industry.

Its excellent performance in high sensitivity and low noise will significantly enhance the image quality in low-light environments such as nighttime and overcast daytime conditions, delivering clear, high-quality night images for the secondary cameras of flagship smartphones.

Fast autofocus

SC535XS is equipped with SmartSens' AllPix ADAF^® and Sparse PDAF technologies. It features two fast autofocus modes that can be freely switched, ensuring fast and accurate focusing under different lighting environments while reducing power consumption. In low-light environments, SC535XS can utilize AllPix ADAF^® mode, achieving accurate and fast focusing through all-pixel all-directional autofocus. Under daily lighting environments, SC535XS can use the Sparse PDAF mode(6% partial phase detection focusing）, achieving fast focusing while reducing power consumption.

Low power consumption

As a domestic CMOS image sensor for smartphone secondary cameras, SC535XS is built on SmartSens' advanced SmartClarity^®-SL Pro platform and adopts the advanced 28+nm process, achieving significant optimization of power consumption. Under AllPix ADAF^® mode, SC535XS reduces power consumption by approximately 30% compared to similar-spec competing products in the industry. Ultra-low power consumption helps extend the phone's battery life, reduces heat generation during shooting, and ensures stable, longtime video recording.

On-Chip remosaic

SC535XS supports on-chip remosaic, which reduces the computational load on the smartphone SoC when outputting full-size images and 12.5MP videos. This helps improve the efficiency of subsequent image processing such as AI optimization and meets the diverse application needs of different imaging strategies.
